Huron Feathers Centre was established by two local Presbyterian ministers who wanted to reach out to young people in the Sauble Beach community. During the 60s the church was looking towards establishing ministries in resort areas since attendance in city churches decreased during the summer months. The first day camp at Sauble Beach took place in 1967 with 40 children attending the Vacation Bible School. The Centre itself was built in 1968 by the Presbytery of Bruce-Maitland. Throughout the late 60s and early 70s Huron Feathers reached out to area youth with their coffee house program. The Centre also accommodated young people visiting the beach who had no place to stay or little money. Huron Feathers collaborated with the South Sauble Beach Community Church to organize a youth hostel, which hosted over 400 people during the summer months. As attendance to the coffee house and hostel dwindled in the mid-to-late 70s, Huron Feathers started hosting youth groups from the area for weekend retreats and continued to host day camps. In 1986 Huron Feathers developed a Special Needs Programme. Huron Feathers continues to hold day camps for children and youth programs.
