Camp Kintail

Lake Huron – Goderich, Ontario
Synod of Southwestern Ontario

Camp Kintail was founded in 1929 and its property was purchased in 1930 from Joseph McAdams. The camp was operated by the Synod of Hamilton-London (now the Synod of Southwestern Ontario). The original name of the camp was David Pierre Memorial Camp in honour of the Rev. David Pierre of Wingham who was the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1929. Rev. Charles MacDonald contributed to the purchase of the property. The main hall in the camp was erected in 1930 and it served as a dining hall and sleeping accommodations for campers and staff. Five presbyteries in the region each built a cabin between 1932-1933. In the 50s, the camp added the South Field to its property which the Simpson family sold to the synod for $1.00.

Between 1988 and 2000 more cabins were built through the donations of individuals and con-gregations, and the first all-season building was built by the spring of 1997. The camp’s original chapel was located behind the Recreation Hall, but when it was found to be on land not owned by the camp, a new chapel was built and blessed by the moderator of the Synod. Camp Kintail has hosted a variety of programs including co-ed senior and youth camps, nature programs, music and drama program, family camps, and a Leader in Training pro-gram.
